Netflix dropped the trailer for Halston, share a first glimpse of Ewan McGregor in the character of the iconic gay fashion designer.

Roy Halston Frowick was an American designer who gained international fame in the 1970s. He is best known for designing the pillbox hat worn by Jackie Kennedy on her husband’s inauguration. He died in 1990 from AIDS-related cancer.

Set on Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence,” the trailer shows McGregor’s Halston on a mission to “change the face of American fashion,” obsessed with the finer details and attending drug-fueled parties.

“I was a stranger my whole life until I quit messing around,” you can hear him say.

Mcgregor recently defended his casting as a gay character, saying, “If that had been a story about Halston’s sexuality, then maybe it’s fair that the gay actors play that part.” But in this case – and I don’t want to sound like I’m straying from that, because it’s something I’ve thought about a lot – I guess in the end I had the felt like it was only part of who he was.

Halston lasts five episodes on Netflix and was produced by Ryan Murphy.

It will arrive on Netflix on May 14, 2021.
