Now living in New York City, Cowan has gone from strength to strength, creating his own fashion label, styling top celebrities and becoming one of Britain’s top fashion designers.
But before becoming a famous fashion designer and moving to New York, Cowan lived in Cambridge and attended Kimnolton School in Cambridgeshire.
The independent private school offered an art department where Cowan spent a lot of time bringing his designs and creations to life.
Artistic Director at Kimbolton School, Lisa Bamford remembers Cowan who particularly liked glitter and metallic materials.
Lisa said: âChristian studied both art and art history in sixth grade and was a hardworking student who was always motivated, creative and focused.
âHer A-level art classes were dynamic and focused on women’s fashion.
“I can see a lot of echoes of his early work in his current pieces – his love of sequins, for example, metallic fabrics and even aluminum foil!”
There are reports that he began to take an interest in fashion designers such as Alexander McQueen and Gareth Pugh when he was only 12 years old.
After school at Kimbolton, Cowan traveled to London where he attended Central Siant Martins College for a preparatory year to pursue fashion design.
He then attended the London School of Fashion and graduated in Fashion Design.
In its freshman year, the Kimbolton School shares how ‘thrilled’ they were ‘when their entire collection of 1st year diplomas was purchased by Lady Gaga’.
Cowan was also busy designing outfits for Miley Cryus’ tour while studying for her degree, balancing both a degree and a celebrity lifestyle.
Embarking on a successful career as a fashion designer after graduating from college, he got his first showcase in Jeffery, New York and dressed Cardi B for her album, Invasion of Privacy released in 2018.
Cowan went on to design outfits for a number of celebrities to wear at the Met Gala – the annual fundraising gala where celebrities dress to impress.
This year’s Met Gala saw Saweetie, an American rapper wearing one of Christian Cowan’s models, a sparkly, cutout red gown with a thigh slit and a stunning sparkling train on the Gala stairs.
By bringing glitz, glamor, and the most unique designs to every piece he creates, you can easily see why he is known as one of the top fashion brands and designers.
