Famous American fashion designer Virgil Abloh, artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s men’s collection, has died of cancer at the age of 41, the French owners of the French fashion and luxury house LVMH announced on Sunday.
“We are all shocked by this terrible news. Virgil was not only a genius creator, a visionary, but also a man with a beautiful soul and great wisdom,” LVMH chief executive Bernard Arnault said in a statement.
He is survived by his wife Shannon Abloh, his children Lowe Abloh and Gray Abloh, his sister Edwina Abloh, his parents Nee and Eunice Abloh.
His family wrote on his Instagram account: “For more than two years, Virgil has valiantly fought a rare and aggressive form of cancer, cardiac angiosarcoma. He has chosen to fight his fight in private since his diagnosis in 2019, suffering from many difficult treatments, while running several important institutions that span fashion, art and culture.”
